VICTORIA MUNLEY
Paired With: Karen Lee Hunt
Fiat Lux
This composition was created in honor of Karen Lee Hunt, one of the thirty-five individuals studying abroad through Syracuse University, who was killed in an act of terrorism, on Pan Am 103, on 21 December 1988. Karen Lee Hunt was a junior studying English, with a minor in Journalism, and she was described as passionate, empathetic, generous, and introspective. In the words of her mother, Peggy, she was described as, "a most beautiful soul." In reflecting on the kind of message that I wanted to convey within my work, I utilized the Latin text, "Fiat Lux," which translates to, "Let there be light," in order to capture the light that Karen Lee Hunt was for so many of those around her, as well as the light that she continues to be.
