Paired With: Suzanne Marie Miazga
Untitled
This collection of art is dedicated to Suzanne Marie Miazga, a Syracuse graduate student and an aspiring social worker who was traveling back from her semester abroad in Europe when Pan Am flight 103 went down. After reading more about Suzanne, I discovered that she seemed to have a passion for adventure,- something that she and I share- a gentle but outgoing nature and great care for others that made those around her want to open up to her. Essentially, I got the impression that Suzanne served as a beacon of light and hope to those around her, and I chose to highlight this aspect in my art. The collection that I created includes four ink drawings: the first is a portrait of Suzanne captioned by a quote from a letter she had written home to her mother, the second is a candle, which represents both Suzanne’s light and the remembrance of her, the third is a landscape piece of the Alps, which Suzanne noted to be one of her favorite views while she was abroad, and the last is a rising dove, which symbolizes hope, healing, and Suzanne’s peaceful yet strong nature. In totality, it is my hope that these 4 pieces can begin to pay tribute to both Suzanne’s spirit and the healing process that was forced to occur after her loss.
